Calendar of events


Throughout the year there are many events in the sixth form calendar and range from careers and university events to in-school and social events. The sixth form senior students team lead by the head Girl and boy will also be arranging a programme of social events both in and out of school. Added to this will be a range of industry visits which are arranged by each subject area and include the Ford engine plant in Dagenham, The Ford European research centre in Dunton, Network Rail’s Romford maintenance depot, the local National Grid substation and many more.

Year 12 Events 2017-18

September start - PSHE classes throughout the academic year focussing on careers/university/apprenticeship choices
October - Begin researching work experience opportunities for July 2018
October – UCL day at their Euston Campus focusing on research skills
November 2017 – 14th - Destinations (careers) event at Elutec
November 2017 – 24th and 25th - Skills London @ Excel to be attended either as a school party on Friday or with parents on Saturday
December 2017 – ICE skating social in London arranged by the ‘student senior leadership team’.
January 2018– Participation in Polymaths competition UCL (tbc)
February 2018 ongoing – Presentations by various industry professionals including CITB, Bouygues, Willmott Dixon, Thales, Rooff, Network Rail
February 2018 ongoing – Support from school’s advisors ongoing across the year
February/March 2018 – Applications for participation in Junior Leaders Field Gun competition in July
March 2018 – Girls Conference (date tbc)
March 2018 – Field Gun arriving at Elutec. Talk about the competition and Royal Navy apprenticeship schemes
March 2018 – Invitation to attend talk with Wadham College, Oxford re aspirations and application to uni (to include LBBD schools) (date tbc)
March 2018 – Royal Corps of Engineers visit pm.
April 2018 – Visit to Excel for UCAS Higher education event (date tbc 18/19 April)
April 2018 – Possible work experience applications/interviews (to be decided by various organisations)
May 2018 – Work experience placements to be confirmed and paperwork logged in school.
June 2018 (Wednesday 6th) - Year 12 Employability Workshop for all year 12 students.
June 2018 – UCAS Information evening for parents and students – Preparation for uni/finance/choices etc (date tbc)
July 2018 – Work experience/Junior Leaders Field Gun competition (2nd July 2018)
July 2018 – Day at a London university for further information on applications and personal statements.
July 2018 – Local Coventry University presentation for all Barking schools at Elutec.
