Academic Mentoring
We expect all students to work hard and make outstanding progress in their academic studies so we provide a range of academic and pastoral mentoring opportunities to help students attain their personal goals. Academic mentoring is an important support for our students to set and achieve high standards. We will set minimum expected achievement dates
Academic review
One to one academic reviews of progress and work ethic are used to keep students on track and take place each half term following the VIMA assessment tasks that all subject areas undertake. Academic reviews are carried out by the subject teachers in conjunction with their curriculum team leader along with the director of sixth form and may involve formal interviews with parents should this be required.
The director of sixth form receives very regular updates on student achievement and may also instigate an academic review meetings based on the information supplied across the sixth form subject areas.
The academic review process aims to put in place support where needed, celebrate success and push students to achieve their full potential.
Curriculum team leaders
Throughout the year, each curriculum team leader will assess the progress of all students within their department and will use academic review meetings to target support for those who need additional help or challenge. Subject teachers and curriculum team leaders are responsible for all areas of teaching and learning within their subject area and are rightly competitive when it comes to achieving the best results for their students.
Additional subject mentoring opportunities will be provided and students directed to attend if underachievement against target is identified. These will often start at 3:30pm and students will be expected to attend.
Pastoral mentoring
Team leaders
Students are required to attend their team briefing each day at 8:30 for 15 minutes where they will pick up news and information for the coming day and week ahead. This is also an opportunity for students to talk about progress and additional support that they feel they need. Team leaders are the first line support for students on a daily basis and can be contacted by parents should this be needed at any time by e-mail or by phone during normal working hours.
Sixth form support
The student support team are ready to help, whether it is a travel issue, bursary need or any other issue that arises during the course of a day. They are on hand via the sixth form support office or main school support office during opening hours.
